Hill House Cross Country Course is set in 200 acres of beautiful rolling open
Bedfordshire countryside as well as woodland tracks. The course was designed
by Philip Herbert over 17 years ago, well established and mature, it is highly
regarded by Eventers and Trainers. Using Philip’s designs and built by BE
Course Builder Nick Tusting the course is constantly changing and new fences
added to provide the rider with variety, interest and challenge.

There are very few cross country courses I would travel 2 1/2 hrs to get to a
clinic, but Hill House is one of them. I have attended a few of the clinics
run by Hill House and I have to say I can’t wait to get back
for some more!
The ground is always fantastic, the jumps are top quality & varied & the
welcome from Sara & her family is second to none! And if that wasn't enough
the trainers are enthusiastic, professional & approachable making it a truly
worthwhile day. The only downside is that I wished I lived closer to Hill House.

The focus of the course lies in the safe confines of the meadow surrounded by
high hedges and woodland ground. There are over 70 well maintained fences with
all the variety required to meet the needs of all abilities including gallops,
a water complex, ditches, banks and a wide variety of other obstacles from
2`0 to 3`3-3`6. 2008 saw the addition of a British Eventing Intro and Pre-Novice
course and there are plans afoot for 2009.
The course runs over ancient pasture and the old turf is carefully maintained
and provides good going through most of the year. The course is fully accredited
by British Eventing.
The layout of the fences allows a trainer to view virtually the entire course
from the top of the meadow ground which makes schooling for groups and individuals
very easy. You can let us know when you book the course if you do have any
special requirements and we will try to accommodate these where possible – it may
well be possible to book you a slot for yourself only. You may be coming here
with a small group of friends and want to picnic afterwards - again just
let us know.

The schooling facilities at Carlton get better and better and so does
the ground, which always seems to be kinder than anywhere else – your
hard work at maintaining it all does not go unnoticed! On top of that,
it is a lovely spot even when I just want a change of scene for
hacking – thanks to all.

Hill House provides a beautiful venue for events, clinics, rallies and schooling.
Much time is spent looking after the course by three generations of the Tusting
family who see the course as an extension to the garden and as such, lovingly
mow and build every day of the week.
